He was a volunteer at the Whitney-Young Early Childhood Center, a very involved community member and activist. Bob was an avid gardener and an accomplished handyman and inventor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Survivors include his wife, Carol J. of Fort Wayne; daughter, Karin (Todd) Klinedinst of Fort Wayne; son, Brad (Denise) Hess of Fort Wayne; 5 grandchildren; brothers, Omar Hess of Leola, PA, Elvin Hess of Willis Wharf, VA; sisters, Allegra Hess of W. Chicago, IL, Margaret Storm of Guelph Ontario, Canada, Dorothy Hess of Clairemont, CA; mother, Anna Hess of Neffsville, PA. Services 10am Tuesday at Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren, 2810 Beacon Street with calling 1 hour prior. Calling also 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 Monday at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Rd. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery. Memorials to Habitat for Humanity or Heifer International.
