In 1671, a list of Anabaptists who had been exiled from Switzerland, and who had sought refuge in the Dirmstein region of the Pfaltz, included Andreas Abi (age 40) living in Ehrstadt with his wife Elsbeth "Phadt" [Pladt?], and eight children aged 1-18 years. The neighbouring household was occupied by Thurs Abi (age 60), and his wife, Margaret Steiner (age 62) and four children.[ It is assumed that Andreas was also a child of Durs and Margaret.]
On May 13, 1683 he was still in the Kraichgau, when he wrote a letter to the authorities in Trachselwald, seeking to recover his father's property. "When Durs Aebi's son Andres from Kraichgau asks in May 1683 on behalf of his seven children for the return of their share of his father's confiscated estate, this is refused to him. [Website ''Paths to Freedom - Durs Aebi and Margret Steiner from Sumiswald'', at https://wege-zur-freiheit.ch/en/verfolgt-und-vertrieben/durs-aebi-und-margret-steiner, citing StABE, A II 509, 522f.550f.; A II 510, 650; A II 511, 246.] The text of the response from Trachselwald, dated May 25, 1683, is included in full by Newman & Newman. It provides proof that Andreas was Durs' son, since he is referred to as such in the letter.[Newman & Newman, page 153.]
