Anna Mae (Haldeman) Hess, 95, wife of the late Titus Hess, both lifelong Leola farmers, died at Brethren Village on Saturday, January 14, 2006, after accepting her aging process beautifully.
Anna was a guest at Brethren Village since 1988. Daughter of the late John B. and Annie Ginder Haldeman, her family home was in Mastersonville. After marriage, she moved and resided on Hess Rd., Leola where she helped to farm, and nurture six children. She did lots of sewing, crocheting, cooking, preserving, milking cows, and gardening.
She was a long time member of the Conestoga Church of the Brethren, Leola, and the Willing Workers.
Anna is survived by two sons, Elvin (Annie) Hess, of Willis Wharf, VA and Omar (Nancy) Hess of Leola; three daughters, Allegra Hess of W. Chicago, IL, Dorothy Hess of Claremont, CA, Marg (Jay) Strom of Guelph, ON, Canada; one daughter-in-law, Carol Hess of Ft. Wayne, IN; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Dave, Dan, Bob, Rufus, and Glen Haldeman; three sisters, Martha Elliott, Thelma Keener, and Joyce (Clarence) Lowe.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bob Hess, and four brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at the Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, on Monday at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at the Eby Cemetery in Monterey, next to her husband. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heifer Project International, 1015 Louisiana St., Little Rock, AR 72202, or to the Brethren Village Good Samaritan Fund.
