== Biography ==
Not much is known for certain about this Jacob Bär. Based on the order of the list of children on the emigration record, he may have been born roughly about 1714.
No records have been found yet in Pennsylvania that can be said definitively to be him.
However, he may have been the Jacob Bear who warranted two parcels of land in the northern part Manheim on May 28, 1743. [ See surveys A84-131 and A84-150, and Manheim Warrant map at https://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/rg/di/r17-522WarranteeTwpMaps/r017Map2831LancasterManheimWeb.pdf.]This land is just to the northeast of where his parents lived in Upper Leacock. A Jacob Bare '''Jr.''' and wife Barbara sold most of this land to Abraham and Isaac Bare and Michael Sharer on October 5,1750 (maybe should read 1749 since those grantees then sold the land to Michael Meyer on January 4, 1750). Excepted out was a seven-acre parcel retained by Isaac Bear. [ Lancaster Deed A-245.] These men may have been his younger brothers and his brother-in-law, husband of his sister Magdalena. Abraham and Isaac have profiles at [[Bär-204|Abraham Bär (abt.1710-bef.1783)]], and [[Bear-209|Isaac Bear (abt.1720-1774)]], respectively. No profiles found for Michael Sharer or Magdalena Bear.
He may have been the John Jacob Bear who witnessed a deed on January 28, 1746 from [[Bär-204|Abraham Bär (abt.1710-bef.1783)]] for the land previously owned by his father Jacob in Upper Leacock. (Abraham was in possession of this land by June 10, 1741).[ See survey B8-125 and a warrant of this date to him on that survey. ] One of the other two witnesses to this deed was [[Bar-219|Samuel Bar (1705-1750)]], his brother.
He may have been the Jacob Bare for whom an Administrative Bond was signed on July 3, 1759 by Barbara Bare, Abraham Bare, Michael Sharer & Peter Eby (maybe [[Eby-1101|Peter Eby (1730-1794)]]). However, Jane Evans Best concluded that that was this profiled Jacob's father (whose wife was also Barbara).
==Research Notes==
There were a number of men named Jacob Bear who were acquiring land in the 1730s and 1740s in Lancaster County. A few of them settled on parcels near where this man's siblings appear to have settled, around today's Warwick, Clay and Elizabeth Townships. More research is needed.
