== Biography == Barbara Bär (aka "Baer") was born about 1713 in Ratlisberg, Zurich, Switzerland. She was the daughter of [[Bar-177|Hans Jacob Bar]] and [[Frederick-260|Anna Barbara Frederick]]. The Quaker-led English province of Pennsylvania was far more-tolerant than most European countries and many "minority" religion families came from France and Germany etc. seeking better lives and religious freedom. Barbara married [[Leuenberger-40|Hans Johannes Leuenberger (1710-1757)]], born in Bern Canton, Switzerland ca. 1710, in about 1732, via Mennonite connections, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Their first child, Magdalena Leuenberger (Lionberger) was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in 1733 (date on gravestone). Those born after 1745 were born on the Leuenberger farm / plantation in what is now Page County, Virginia. The family moved south to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia after 1745. "On 6/11/1740 [Johan Lionberger] bought a grist mill and 200 acres in Leacock Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. He sold the property on 5/11/1745. He then obtained a grant of land along with his brother Peter for 1100 acres in Augusta Co., Va. (now part of Page Co.)" - cited on
Hans John Leuenberger died in June 1757 on his plantation (over 2,000 acres!) near Little Hawksbill Creek, in what was then Augusta County (today: Page County), in the colony of Virginia. His will was proven in Frederick County, Virginia, in June 1757 and names his wife, Barbara, plus 8 children: sons, John, David & Peter; daughters, Elizabeth, Magdalena, Mary, Barbara & Ann Leuenberger. It indicates wife Barbara was still living.
