The Anna Bär who was the daughter of Hans Jacob Bar and maybe of his wife Anna Barbara (Frederick) Bär (she may have been the daughter of an earlier marriage) emigrated from Duhren in 1719, with her parents and seven siblings. [ Burgert, Annette Kunselman. Eighteenth Century Emigrants from German-Speaking Lands to North America. Publications of the Pennsylvania German Society, 16/19. Birdsboro, PA: The Pennsylvania German Society. Vol. 1: The Northern Kraichgau. 1983. Page 432.] She may have been the eldest of the children who emigrated, based on being listed first, which would roughly suggest that she may have been born about 1703 (if they are listed in chronological order). No evidence has been documented of a birth for her on 19th of July 1703 in Ratlisberg, Zurich, Switzerland, and her father may have been born in the northern Kraichgau area of what is today Germany. Best shows her as the first wife of Hans Groff (abt.1695-bef.1748), and the mother of his first four children, but she does not include her source in the Groff Book, Volume II. It may be included in the Groff Book Volume I (book not yet found). In any event, no information found to date conflicts with this idea.
Based on a deed dated June 18,1740 from Christopher Franciscus to Jame Webb, this Hans Groff's wife in 1740 was named Barbara (last name not known).[Lancaster County Deed C3.] Best shows him with second wife Barbara, and a marriage c. 1731 in the Groff Book Volume II.
Research Notes
Best includes this information in the Groff Book, Volume II::Anna married Hans Groff (abt.1695-bef.1748). They had four known children:
# Martin Bar Groff b. 1724, d. 1759
# Anna Elisabeth Groff b. 1725, d. 1759
# Hans Jacob Groff b. 1725, s. 1782
# Samuel Groff
The following info is not included in the Groff Book Volume II:
:Anna died in 1759 in Montgomery, Pennsylvania, Colonial America aged ~55.
: It is said they also had a son Marcus, but the birth attributed to him is 1712, which is far too early for this Anna (who would have been nine years oldf). [This Marcus may be Marcus Graf (1712-1791), the son of a different couple - Hans Graff (1661-bef.1746) and his wife Susanna.]
