==Biography==Barbara Frederick, the daughter of Strasburg or East Lampeter resident [[Frederick-261|Isaac Frederick]], was also the wife of Jacob Bear of Upper Leacock, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. That deed conveys deceased Isaac’s land consisting of 150 acres in today’s East Lampeter. Her family were Mennonite Protestant Christians. As such they were subject to local discrimination, leading many to emigrate, seeking religious freedom.
In 1719, Barbara and Jacob Bar emigrated with their eight named children (Anna, Samuel, Veronica, Margaretha, Barbara, Jacob, Elisabeth and Magdelana) from Duhren in the northern Kraichgau, in what is now Germany. He is referred to in his emigration record as a Mennonite farmer. Another emigrant from Duhren in 1719 was [[Baer-367|Hans Michael Baer (abt.1686-bef.1741)]], probably her husband's brother, with his wife [[Ott-601|Anna Elizabeth (Ott) Baer (1692-1735)]] and children.[ Burgert, Annette Kunselman. Pages 423 and 432.]They appear to have settled on a large parcel of land in what is today Upper Leacock that was surveyed in 1721, apparently for Jacob. Hans' [?] Ancestry.com profile states the couple had 17 children between 1695 and 1726; all but the first 6 were born in Pennsylvania ['''Note''': not all children listed may have been from this couple, based on dates & birth-places; research is needed]. Hans Jakob Bär (Baer) passed away on 3 July 1759, following the death of Anna (Frederick) Bär (Baer) that same year. They may have died on their farm in what is today Upper Leacock Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Page 27. ] In any event, there was also a Jacob, '''Jr.''' (see profile at [[Bar-217|Jacob Bar (abt.1714-)]]) who also had a wife named Barbara, and has not been definitely linked to any records after he sold his Manheim property on October 5,1749 or 1750. He may have been the man who died in about 1759. One of the signatories to the Administrative Bond is likely to have been [[Bär-204|Abraham Bär (abt.1710-bef.1783)]], probably this profiled Barbara's son.
