- Alexander died after a farm accident at the age of 2 years old, the story goes:
He was accidentally run over with a hay mower and his legs were cut off. The family rushed to teh local doctor who was known to be a drunk but a genius doctor. He told John Curtis to go out and kill a chicken and bring him the bones. He used them to make a splint for the legs of Alexander. The doctor didn’t finish the care after he had finished the operation. The family went to someone more sober and Alexander did not live.
The Toronto Sick Kids Hospital contacted the family to see if they could get the body to use as a teaching aid because of the use of the chicken bones in fixing the legs . But the family refused and when Alexander was buried they added cement around the casket so grave robbers wouldn’t talk the body and sell it to the hospital.
